Conversion of Willmar District Steam to Hot Water

With the community depending on an aging steam heating system, Willmar Public Utilities Commission wanted to stay in business but needed to reduce operating costs and improve system reliability. The commission hired FVB Energy Inc. to evaluate options and make recommendations. Based on our review, Willmar Public Utilities decided to convert their steam system to hot water, and FVB Energy continued to help—taking the concept through construction. We provide detailed engineering and construction documents to replace the heat distribution system, convert existing buildings from steam to hot water, and modify the existing combined heat and power plant to make it more compatible with the hot water system.
